Following his tragic death back on May 8, legendary music engineer Steve Albini has just been honored with a street named after him in Chicago. According to an ordinance passed by Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, the 2600-2700 block of West Belmont Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood will now officially be known as “Steve Albini Way.” This stretch also falls on the same spot where Albini’s celebrated recording studio, Electrical Audio, is located. Electrical Audio shared the official ordinance on their Instagram page, captioning the post, “❤️❤️❤️ #thankyoustevealbini”

Albini launched his recording studio back in 1997, helping build the two-studio complex brick-by-brick. He engineered iconic albums like Nirvana’s In Utero, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, and PJ Harvey’s Rid of Me, while also fronting beloved noise rock bands Shellac and Big Black. Shellac’s final album, All Trains, was released posthumously only one week after Albini’s passing. (Consequence of Sound)
