Billy Idol continued his celebration of the 40th anniversary of the release of his 1984 hit single, “Rebel Yell,” by spectacularly performing the song from the 103 floor of the Empire State Building. Idol and his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens were both tethered to an outdoor balcony on top of the iconic New York City skyscraper, and played an acoustic rendition of the rock anthem. The performance was filmed by drones who captured the stunning views of both the sprawling city below and the rock stars high above the clouds. The narrow balcony where the duo performed originally served as a disembarkation deck for passengers of airships that were tethered to the Empire State’s spire back in the day.

“When I was a little boy we lived in Long Island for a few years and my mom and dad took me to visit the Empire State Building, probably in 1959,” said Idol. “Hard to fathom that 65 years later I’d be playing rock ‘n’ roll on top of the building! Then and now the Empire State Building is an unrivaled jewel of Art Deco magic. A career highlight for sure!” (Louder Sound)
